President Trump and the republican party were just denied by the supreme court in a 1 sentence order.
Here it is…
“The application for writ of injunction pending appeal presented to justice Kagan and by her referred to the court is denied.” I’m going to explain what that means – but you need to know this is not a surprise and now that it’s actually here – it’s absolutely going to impact the midterm elections.
Why? Because this is the case being brought by President Trump and the Republican party of California. They are suing the state to try and stop California from using their brand new gerrymandered map. That map which was approved overwhelmingly by California voters eliminates five Republican congressional districts in the hopes of delivering those districts to democrats. Bottom line – with this map California believes there will be five fewer Republicans from California in the United States House of Representatives and instead there will be five more Democrats from California in the House of Representatives. If you don’t know how gerrymandering works – I have tons of videos on it to help you understand how politicians can do this sort of thing. And yes, whether you like it or not – the supreme court says it’s legal. Now back to this case.
According to California state officials — only reason why California gerrymandered their congressional map was because Texas did the exact same thing. You probably remember last year when President Trump told Texas Governor Greg Abbott to go through the unprecedented step of gerrymandering the state’s map in the middle of the decade. That had never happened before. The Texas state legislature said ok – and gerrymandered their map and eliminated five Democratic districts in Texas and redrew the lines to help five republicans instead win those districts.
Well the state of Texas was sued and as I told you in this video – the supreme court said at least preliminarily – that Texas lawmakers were totally within legal bounds and they could absolutely gerrymander their maps in the middle of a decade for purely political purposes. And that’s how we got to today’s ruling. Where the justices ruled the exact same way but for California. The justices are denying Trump and the Republican’s request to put an emergency injunction to stop California from using the new map in the midterms while their case continues to play out. The justices are saying California – at least for right now — can use that map just like Texas can use their map. And as I mentioned this is not a surprise. I say that because in that Texas ruling – as I reported at the time conservative justice Samuel Alito specifically mentioned California’s gerrymandering as being ok when he said that Texas’s gerrymandering was ok.
