We see you.
That’s the basic message from the Pentagon about that Chinese spy balloon that’s been floating in US air space. And in a shocking move, the Chinese government has apologized for it.
The pentagon just gave a briefing about what’s going on. Most of it is classified but the pentagon did confirm a few things
- it’s a Chinese surveillance balloon
- NORAD has been monitoring it for days.
- It’s big, the size of about three buses
- It’s floating at 60-thousand feet
- It was over Montana – where there are nuclear sites — and is currently over the central US and has been moving eastward since
- It does have the ability to maneuver
- It is currently violating US airspace but the government has decided not to shoot it down – yet…
The general said at this point they won’t shoot it down because of the potential debris that could fall onto American property and potentially hurt of kill people on the ground. But that doesn’t mean our military won’t shoot it down.
The Pentagon says we’ve seen surveillance balloons like this in the past under different administrations. But different this time – the Chinese government has confirmed it and apologized for it. The People’s Republic of China released this statement today saying it’s a “civilian airship” for “meteorological purposes.” The statement also says the Chinese side “regrets the unintended entry of the airship.”
The general says the balloon will probably be around for another few days and they are constantly reviewing their options.
