August 8, 2023
If you are a veteran or know a veteran there is deadline you and they need to know about coming tomorrow.
August 9th is the last day to file a claim for backdated expanded VA health care benefits for those military members who were exposed to toxic burn pits and other toxic conditions while serving during the Vietnam war, Gulf war and the post September 11th era.
This is all part of the PACT Act which was a significant bipartisan bill that was signed into law last year and expands health care services for those veterans who were exposed to burn pits, agent orange and other toxic chemicals and now have cancer, asthma, or COPD – just to mention a few. This law removes a lot of the red tape they were facing to get care for these diseases that the law now says were obviously related to the toxic chemicals they were exposed to while they were serving.
But – there is a deadline to file a retroactive disability or benefits claim through the VA for not only those veterans but their families. And that deadline is tomorrow. If you apply by tomorrow, you may receive benefits backdated to august 10, 2022. If you don’t want to backdate your benefits that’s fine, there is no deadline to apply for pact act benefits through the VA moving forward.
