The clock keeps ticking on President Trump’s threat against Iran if they don’t open the Strait of Hormuz by 8 p.m. eastern tonight. In case you missed his post this morning — Trump said – a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.
But just a short time ago — Iran responded during a UN Security Council meeting.
I think it’s important for you to see how the rest of the world outside the United States is seeing this war with Iran. It’s clear that all the countries involved in the United Nations security council – well – except for Russia – see Iran’s targeting of neighboring countries and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz as a big problem.
The UN Security Council met this afternoon to vote on an emergency resolution for UN countries to coordinate efforts– including military efforts – to force the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. But that resolution failed because China and Russia voted no and Pakistan and Columbia obtained. I was particularly interested in China’s statement about why they voted no — and you should be too because China is using this war to position itself as the stable and rational leader the world needs – instead of the United States.
Did you catch that? China is telling the world see all this chaos the United States is causing —look at us – we are the epitome of a responsible major world power that is calm and upholds international fairness and justice. Whether it’s true or not the fact is – we are now at a point where even the United States’s allies are questioning whether the US can be trusted. They are openly talking about relying less on the United States and relying less on the US dollar. Now the US ambassador to the United Nations Mike Watlz tried to convince his colleagues on the council that this resolution that failed — was not about justifying the US strikes on Iran –he stressed this resolution was about stopping Iran from hitting its neighbors in the gulf who have nothing to do with this war and stopping Iran from closing an international waterway that is not theirs. But that message may have gotten lost – because Waltz sort of echoed Trump’s rhetoric with another warning.
