Trump Says Iran Broke the Ceasefire. So Why is the US Still Playing By the Rules?

April 9, 2026

President Trump has just admitted that Iran is basically violating the terms of the ceasefire….so why are we still in it?

Trump just posted, Iran is doing a very poor job, dishonorable some would say, of allowing oil to go through the Strait of Hormuz. That is not the agreement we have!

And there in lies the problem. What does the agreement actually say? We don’t know. The United States and president trump say it includes certain thing and Iran says it includes totally different things. And the problem is — there are no facts that can prove which side is right. But what we can do is look at what the president of the United States has said and what the facts are on the ground. Trump said just two days ago — the only way he would accept a ceasefire is if Iran agreed to the complete, immediate and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Well – immediately Iran’s foreign minister responded – saying Iran would open the Strait of Hormuz but – from jump — he absolutely did not agree to the complete, immediate and safe opening…. All he said was the strait would open only under coordination with Iran’s armed forces and with due consideration of technical limitations. Trump actually posted that statement to his own social media page. Which is strange because it contradicts what the president was demanding.

So it’s no surprise that there is confusion. But what we know for sure is that since Wednesday, Iran has absolutely been restricting access of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. Very few if any have passed … and we’ve even heard Iran may be charging tolls for ships to pass through the strait safely….which is absolutely new. There was no toll prior to this war.

It appears President Trump has also got wind of this toll thing – he posted a few hours ago – there are reports that Iran is charging fees to tankers going through the Hormuz Strait – they better not be and if they are they better stop now! Based on Iran’s history – it’s very unlikely that a social media post from Trump is going to stop them.

To wrap this up – remember Trump’s apocalyptic threat of killing a whole civilization if Iran didn’t open the strait? Well – this two-week ceasefire was agreed to in order to avoid that. But it’s obvious Iran is not upholding the deal President Trump said he made with them. So it’s unclear why the US is still in it. What we know for sure is that the White House is really pressing hard for these negotiations with Iran this weekend. Vice President JD Vance will lead the US delegation to try and come to a resolution to end this war with the Iranians. It’s possible the  White House doesn’t want to pull out of the ceasefire until we know what can come of this weekend’s negotiation.
