President Trump just said he’s going to just pay TSA workers. How? Why now? We’ll get to it.
Trump just posted that he is using my authorities under the law to protect our great country. He said he’s going to sign an executive order that will instruct Homeland Security secretary Markwayne Mullin to immediately pay our TSA agents in order to address this emergency situation.
A couple of things here.
One –we have not yet seen this executive order yet. So stand by for that.
Two – if and when Trump does sign said order, we have no idea what legal authority he’s going to use to do this and we have no idea where this money is going to come from. The constitution is pretty clear that Congress has the power of the purse. Not the president. That’s why we’re in this situation.
Three – if it was as easy as just singing an executive order to pay TSA agents – why did he let this airport chaos go on for so long?
We’ll hopefully get some answers soon.
But the reality is – the Senate still has not passed a funding deal for Homeland Security and even if they do – the House would still need to pass it as well and that’s a whole new ball of wax.
I’ll keep you posted.
