After months of silence – we just got an update on those classified documents found at President Biden’s home in Delaware and private office in Washington DC.
According to the office of Special Counsel Robert Hur, President Biden voluntarily sat for interviews over two days to try and get to the bottom of how and why those documents were outside of secure facilities. The questioning was done Sunday and Monday of this week.
Of the interview – the White House said “…the president and the white house are cooperating with this investigation, and as it has been appropriate, we have provided relevant updates publicly, being as transparent as we can, consistent with protecting and preserving the integrity of the investigation.”
The Special Counsel’s office did not make a statement about these interviews. The Justice Department has said all statements will be made through legal filings made with the court. And at this point – there are no charges filed with the court when it comes to Biden’s classified documents.
If you want to make an apples-to-apples comparison between this case and another classified documents case – the most similar one is with former Vice President Mike Pence. I told you in this video back in January – that he discovered classified documents in his home in Indiana. Once they were discovered, Pence’s team immediately notified the FBI and turned them over to the national archives. And from the beginning pence said he would fully cooperate with the investigation. Just a few months ago in June the department of justice closed its investigation into Pence’s classified documents and did not file any charges against him.
Now — I am not saying that’s what will happen with Biden. His case is different in that a Special Counsel was appointed to look into what happened. There was no Special Counsel appointed to the Pence case. But they are similar in that, they both were Vice Presidents who were out of office, in possession of classified materials outside of secure locations and both pledged to fully cooperate with the investigations.
There is no time frame for when Special Counsel Robert Hur will make a decision in President Biden’s classified documents case.
