Did the Department of Justice really withhold bombshell allegations made by an Epstein survivor who claimed that she was assaulted not only by Jeffrey Epstein but also by then-citizen Donald Trump when she was a minor? Well – that is the accusation being made and today – the Department of Justice says they are now investigating. Oh – and over the next two days– the Clintons are going to be on the hot seat answering questions from congress about what they know about Jeffrey Epstein.
So – let me back up – yesterday the ranking member of the House oversight committee Representative Robert Garcia a Democrat from California said that not only did the DOJ withhold – but he says they also removed Epstein files related to an abuse allegation involving a minor and then citizen Trump in the 1980s. Garcia said that when he went to find the documents related to this allegation in the unredacted files that can be accessed by members of congress – he said the FBI interviews of that victim were nowhere to be found.
Immediately after ranking member Garcia made that accusation – the department of justice lashed out saying that “oversight Dems – like Garcia – “should stop misleading the public while manufacturing outrage from their radical anti-trump base.” They went on to say that “nothing –in all caps – has been deleted. If files are temporarily pulled for victim redactions or to redact personally identifiable information then those documents are promptly restored online and are publicly available.” Lastly they point to the categories of documents that will never be released to the public including documents that are “duplicates, privileged or if they’re part of an ongoing investigation.”
But today — the DOJ changed its tune. Just a few hours ago the department of justice posted this interesting statement saying “several individuals and news outlets have recently flagged files related to documents produced to Ghislaine Maxwell in discovery of her criminal case that they claim appear to be missing. As with all documents that have been flagged by the public, the department is currently reviewing files within that category of the production. Should any document be found to have been improperly tagged in the review process and is responsive to the act, the department will of course publish it, consistent with the law.”
So in less than 24 hours it went from Democrats are misleading people and manufacturing outrage to the DOJ is investigating these missing documents. And we know the documents exist because the survivor herself was the one who told Representative Garcia that her FBI interviews – known as 302 forms– were missing from the public library. We also know they exist because hundreds of these 302 forms were provided to Ghislaine Maxwell during her trial as part of discovery but dozens and dozens of those 302s are nowhere to be found in the public library – even redacted versions of them just aren’t there.
President Trump and the White House continue to say that Trump has been “completely exonerated” by these Epstein files and he has denied any kind of misconduct – trump has also never been charged with any crime in connection to Jeffrey Epstein.
Now – it’s important to know — just because the department of justice is now saying they are going to investigate to see if any of these documents are indeed missing – does not mean that we will ever see them. That’s because even if the DOJ does identify them – they could still in the end determine that they fall under the category of privileged or part of an ongoing investigation.
And that lead me to the other big story coming out of these Epstein files. Tomorrow former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will testify under oath about what she knows about Jeffrey Epstein. And then on Friday former President Bill Clinton will do the same. Like Trump – neither of them have been charged with any crime in connection to Epstein and both of them have denied any wrongdoing. Now — while former Secretary Clinton says she had no relationship at all with Jeffrey Epstein…. Like Trump – former President Clinton did. There are lots of photographs of former President Clinton with Epstein in these Epstein files.
But here’s the thing about the Clintons – they are using the Trump playbook. Saying this is a witch hunt against them orchestrated by the Republicans and demanding that if they have to come in to testify – this is going to open the door wide open to force Trump himself – at some point to have to come in and testify.
It is likely – that after these depositions are completed that the house oversight committee will release the video of the Clintons’ testimony. If that happens, it’s unclear when.
