President Trump said a lot of things last night during his state of the union – he cited a lot of numbers – and the good news about numbers is — those can be easily fact checked. So let’s do that right now.
Let’s start with the economy. Here’s the claim.
He said a lot of things here – some are sort of true – but need context and some are just false. So – the false statement is the easy part. We have not had at any point since Trump took office “no inflation.” That is just blatantly false. The other inflation number trump gave of 1.7% needs a lot of context. As I reported in this video — the fact is – Trump’s own government said in the most recent inflation report – that inflation overall in the united states is 2.4% above January of 2025. Not 1.7. So where did he get that number? Well – he’s combining two different things in an unconventional way. One – he’s using the core inflation number – which is the overall inflation number I just gave you of 2.4% — minus the volatile categories of food and energy – and he’s averaging the remaining inflation categories. Plus he’s only using the last 3 months of core inflation data from 2025. So you can decide if that number really reflects what’s happening with inflation in this country.
Let’s move on to the next claim.
Now – again this is partly true but needs more context. According to the latest jobs report – which I reported on in this video — in January 2026 Trump’s government said a record 158 million people in this country were employed. That’s true. But – what he’s not saying is that unemployment also increased in January to 4.3%. That is definitely higher than the record low unemployment rate under President Biden in February of 2023 of 3.4%. The latest jobs report also found that in 2025 – Trump’s first year back in office – job creation in the United States was the slowest its been since 2020.
Next…
This claim depends on how you define the word “lifted”…some people instead would use the words “kicked out”. The fact is – according to a report from the non-partisan congressional budget office – which I reported in this video — under the big beautiful bill – they estimated 2.4 million Americans would lose their snap benefits because of the president’s signature piece of legislation. So it’s not that 2.4 million Americans under trump suddenly were in a position to not need their snap benefits anymore – it’s that they no longer qualified for them.
Let’s go to the next claim.
Well – first and foremost. The fact is drug prices are not 300, 400 or 600% lower. If that were true the drug companies would be paying you to use their medication. But as I reported in this video – the Trump RX website does have some significantly reduced prices. What Trump is not telling you is the price reduction is not for all prescription medications Trump RX only has 43 prescription drugs available – and some people have reported – that you can actually get the same prices through other discount websites or programs or from warehouse stores like Costco.
There are a ton of other economic claims that we could also talk about but i want to move on to another important topic trump discussed last night…and that is elections. Trump demanded that senate republicans pass the Save America act…
Now – I point this one out because this now the second time the president has made an incorrect claim about the Save America act. It is a fact that the bill would require both voter id at the polls and proof of citizenship to even register – but it’s also a fact that nowhere in the Save America act – does the bill remove mail in ballots. The president keeps saying this is part of the bill – but it’s just not. As for passing the Save America act into law– it’s also a fact that it did already pass in the house but – at least right now – it does not have the required votes in the senate. Also – I did a whole deep dive video debunking all the voter fraud allegations you can check that out on my Substack.
The last topic I want to touch on in this video — because it was a big part of Trump’s speech was immigration….here’s the claim about illegal migrants.
This claim is partly Trump’s opinion and partly true but needs some serious context. The part about migrants pouring in from prisons and mental institutions is something that trump has said for years. The fact is — he has never provided any data that proves that claim and there have been no official reports even from Trump’s own government that prove those claims. As for the 11,888 murders who were ‘let into the country’ the fact is – I have no idea where he’s getting that specific number. But he could be getting that number from this letter from ice under President Biden that reported there were 13,099 non-citizens who are not-detained with a conviction for “homicide.” Now – the context that trump is not telling you is that this number does not represent non-citizen murders who entered the country under President Biden. It represents the number of non-citizen murderers who are believed to be in the country under all presidents – including Trump’s first term.
Now – Trump also talked about gas prices and tariffs replacing income tax and Iran’s nuclear program and the number of illegal migrants who crossed into the border – some of his claims were true and others …not so much. So if you want to see those I just posted a deep dive on my Substack so go check that out.
