What are the worst times to hit the road for Thanksgiving?
Isn’t that the question. And a good one.
According to AAA we’re going to see a record 80 million people on the roads in the air and on buses and trains traveling at least 50 miles from home. That’s 2% more than last year and almost 3% more than 2019.
AAA says Tuesday November 26 between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Wednesday, November 27 between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. are the absolute worst days and times to get on the road. But if you absolutely have to travel on those days the best time to do it according to AAA is before 10 a.m.
The best day to travel for thanksgiving – according to the report – is actually on Thanksgiving Day.
And on the way back home after Thanksgiving, Sunday December 1st is going to be the worst especially between noon and 6 p.m. if you have to travel on that Sunday AAA suggests getting on the road before 1 p.m. and if you choose to come back on Monday December 2nd you’re going to also be fighting work commuters so AAA says that’s going to be bad between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Here’s the best and worst times to travel by car for the Thanksgiving holiday week.
