Chances are you’re missing one major piece of this election that’s at least equally or depending on how you look at it – more important than who wins the office of the President.
And that is which party will win control of the US House and the US Senate.
It doesn’t happen very often but this election cycle – the house the senate and the white house are all up for grabs and all could flip. And the reality is – how success any new president will be – is going to be determined by the balance of power in the house and the senate.
To the math!
The house is currently controlled by the republicans. But the GOP voting majority is literally – and I am not exaggerating – the smallest in US history. They can only lose three republican votes if they want to pass any of their priority bills. That means it’s only going to take democrats a few wins in a few states to flip control of the entire House of Representatives. And right now – in my 2024 election guide – THE BOOK — I have 24 races in the u-s house that are considered toss up seats. That means those seats could be won by either republicans or democrats. So it is totally possible democrats will be able to flip power in the house.
Now the Senate is a different story. As you know Democrats currently control the Senate. That’s because when you count Independents who caucus with democrats the majority is equally as tight. 51 to 49. Because Senators serve for 6 year terms not every one of the 100 Senators in office right now is on the ballot in 2024. This year 34 Senate seats are up for grabs. But in my 2024 election guide – THE BOOK– I have eight seats that will determine which party controls the Senate. And the fact is – there are more Democrats up for reelection in 2024 than Republicans so it is very possible in the Senate the Republicans can flip power.
Either way – like I have been reporting for weeks – we need to wait as votes are counted. These toss up races are extremely close and it could take hours or even days to figure out which party wins.
My election guide gives you all the information you need to know about these toss up races, who is running in them and includes a score card to help you keep track of who wins and ultimately which party will control the house and the senate. Plus it of course has all the information you need to know about the electoral college and the multiple electoral paths to victory for both former President Trump and Vice President Harris.
