You might notice a strange QR code on your television screen tonight during the first and likely only vice presidential debate between Senator JD Vance and governor Tim Walz.
So what is that QR code? And why is it there?
CBS says they’re trying something new to fact check Vance and Walz. This QR code. First — you’re only going to see the QR code if you’re watching the debate on CBS. You won’t see it on other channels that are simulcasting the debate.
But if you’re watching the debate on CBS and open that QR code on your phone, CBS says you’ll be directed to the CBS website where they will have more than a dozen journalists and fact checkers providing clarity and fact checks on everything the candidates are saying.
But as I told you in this video last week, you are not going to see the moderators Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan fact checking the candidates on TV. CBS says fact checking what a candidate says on tv is the responsibility of the other candidate.
The 90-minute debate starts at 9 pm eastern on CBS and it will be simulcast on several other major news channels.
