Who is Kevin Warsh?
Well you should get to know this guy because President Trump just nominated him to be the next chairman of the Federal Reserve.
Warsh is 55 years old. He is definitely a Wall Street and Federal Reserve insider. He started his career at Morgan Stanley and he served as a Fed board governor during both the Georg W Bush and Obama administration. His term expired in 2011. Since the he’s been a fellow at Stanford and has served on the boards of big business…like UPS.
So what’s he about? Well recently he’s been a critic of the way current chairman Jerome Powell has been leading the Fed. He wrote this op ed in the Wall Street Journal just a few months ago in November 2025. In that article he was praising President Trump’s tariff and deregulation policies and the extension of the tax cuts that were included in the big beautiful bill. Hess also an AI guy. He’s all about integration. He also disagreed with the way the Fed board has been handling inflation and interest rates. In his op ed he suggested the fed is making money easy for wall street but too hard for average Americans so he thinks interest rate cuts can’t come soon enough
One more thing about Warsh. He’s been on Trump’s radar for years. In fact Warsh was reportedly on Trumps short list back in 2017 to be the Fed chair. Trump ultimately chose Powell instead.
So now that he’s the nominee what’s next? Well he needs to be confirmed by the Senate. So first we will see Warsh in a public hearing in front of the Senate banking committee. He will need to be voted on by the committee and if he’s approved then his nomination will advance to full Senate. The Fed chair only needs a simple majority vote in order to be confirmed. Which of course Republicans can do without any votes from Democrats however. Theres one little hiccup. One Republican Senator Thom Tillis who sits on the banning committee has said he will not advance any of Trumps Fed chair nominees until there is a conclusion to the investigation Trump has already launched into Chairman Powell.
Fun fact, Warsh is married to the American billionaire heiress and businesswoman Jane Lauder, whose grandparents founded the Estée Lauder cosmetics company
