March 4 2024.
That is the day former President Trump will go on trial in his federal election interference case. It’s worth noting judge Tanya Chutkan denied both trump’s lawyers and the special counsel’s requests for trial start dates.
Now, I know it’s hard to keep all these cases straight.
So this case is brought by special counsel Jack Smith in Washington DC that charged Trump with four felony counts — conspiracy to defraud the united states, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiracy against rights.
The judge said Trump will be treated like all other criminal defendants and his current day job – running for President – does not entitle him to special consideration on timing. She did however say she took into consideration all the other criminal trials he’s facing when choosing March 4…saying “Mr. Trump, like any defendant, will have to make the trail date work regardless of his schedule.” Just so you know, he will be required to be in the courtroom every single day of his trial.
So yeah March is going to be a very busy month. This trial is set to start on March 4th, the next day, March 5th is Super Tuesday, when several states vote or caucus for the Republican nomination. Then the New York state criminal trial date involving those hush money payments to an adult film star is set to start on March 25th. Then less than two months later, May 20th, the classified documents federal criminal trial is set to begin in Florida.
Now – it’s definitely possible these dates slip because of delays. But at least when it comes to judge Chutkan, she is pretty set on getting this trial underway on time.
