That was the moment and now Senator Markwayne Mullin will be the next secretary of homeland security.
The final vote was 54 to 45 with one senator not voting.
Almost all of the yes votes were from republicans. But two democrats also voted for Mullin including senators Fetterman of Pennsylvania and Heinrich of New Mexico.
All the other Democrats voted no along with one Republican – no surprise – Senator Rand Paul voted no.
And the one Senator who did not vote was a Democrat.
So now what? Well – according to President Trump’s nomination, the current DHS Secretary Kristi Noem is supposed to be officially out of the job by March 31. And then Mullin will be sworn in and he’ll take the reins. And then we’ll have to see whether DHS operates differently under Secretary Mullin than it did under Secretary Noem.
See how your Senator voted here.
