Was it John Barron or was it really President Donald Trump? I have an update for you. But in case you don’t know what I’m talking about there has been so much speculation over a clip from Friday’s C-Span call-in show. The topic was the Supreme Court decision to rule President Trump’s tariffs illegal. But speculation ran rampant over the weekend that the caller’s voice sounded awfully familiar.
In case you are not an avid C-Span watcher – like me – C-Span allows for average people to call in and voice their opinions about all kinds of political topics. Of course on Friday the biggest topic was the Supreme Court’s tariff ruling. So a guy named John Barron from Virginia called into the show to share his opinion. I want you to listen to John Barron a little closer.
Now – there was a lot of speculation on the internet that – that wasn’t John Barron calling into C-Span on Friday – it was actually Donald Trump calling in to C-Span on Friday. Now the fact is — Trump has actually used the alias of John Barron throughout the 1980s and 1990s especially when he needed to call in to media outlets to act as a spokesperson for Donald Trump or for the Trump organization. In fact – there was a well-documented case in 1984 when John Barron called into Forbes to inflate Donald Trump –the business man’s assets — to try and get Trump on the Forbes 400 list. In fact the journalist who took the call from Donald Trump posing as John Barron released the audio.
So – was it Trump who called in to C-Span or not? Today – C-Span responded saying it absolutely was not President Trump. They posted this to their social media page this afternoon saying because so many of you are talking about Friday’s C-Span caller who identified himself as “John Barron,” we want to put this to rest: it was not the president. The call came from a central Virginia phone number and came while the president was in a widely covered, in-person White-House meeting with the governors.
