President Trump threatened that the United States would “obliterate” Iran’s power plants within 48 hours if they didn’t fully open with out threat the Strait of Hormuz.
That was on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. eastern…so that 48 hour deadline would be like today. And as of right now – the strait is still definitely closed. But …
So Trump says because of that discussion and possible deal – he’s going to hold off this huge threat of “obliterating” Iran’s power plants for the next 5 days. The only problem with that is…
According to Iran’s foreign ministry there was “no dialogue” between Iran and the president’s team at all. They say they have no idea what trump is talking about. So why is Trump saying that it happened?
So Trump is doubling down that these talks with Iran did happen – that us negotiators are talking with a man in Iran who is the “most respected leader” – though Trump did not name this leader — and trump’s going as far as to say that the deal is almost done. What did Iran agree to?
It’s also important that you know – on Friday only about 24 hours before Trump made the 48 hour threat – he said this.
Look – the facts are hard to see here. The president literally changes his message minute by minute – one minute he doesn’t want a deal because we’re obliterating Iran, the next he’s making a 48 hour threat to bomb Iran’s energy infrastructure, and then the next — not only is he postponing the 48 hour deadline – but he’s extending it by 5 days because a deal is basically done – even though he said we don’t want a deal because why would you do that when you’re obliterating the other side. All while Iran says talks with trump’s people never happened. I don’t blame you if you’re confused.
But what we can know for a fact – is what today’s positive talk from President Trump is doing to the US stock market and global oil market. Now it’s still early in the day – but the Dow is up more than 800 points and when it comes to the price of a barrel of oil – yeah – look at that drop off. The price of oil is down more than 10%.
