The former President Donald Trump has just been indicted again.
This time – the 45-page indictment came from the grand jury in Washington DC hearing evidence and testimony in special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into 2020 election interference and January 6th for months.
The former President is being charged with four felony counts — conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct and official proceeding and conspiracy against rights. Six co-conspirators are also listed but not named in the indictment including lawyers, a former justice department official and a political consultant.
The indictment outlines the conspiracy that trump allegedly began dating back to November 14 of 2020 running through January 20 of 2021 to “overturn the legitimate results of the presidential election and retain power” by using “knowingly false claims of election fraud to get state legislators and election officials to subvert the legitimate election results and change electoral votes”, organizing “fraudulent slates of electors in seven targeted states”, attempting to “use the power and authority of the Justice Department to conduct sham election crime investigations”, trying to “enlist the Vice President to use his ceremonial role at the January 6 certification proceeding to fraudulently alter the election results”, and then when it became clear pence would not send the votes back to the states and the riot happened at the Capitol, Trump and co-conspirators “exploited the disruption by redoubling efforts to levy false claims of election fraud and convince members of congress to further delay the certification based on those claims.”
The indictment also goes into how former president Trump knew his election fraud claims were a lie and goes into explain how he allegedly use those lies to “obstruct” the vote in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
The former President is scheduled to be arrested and arraigned later this week.
