Planning to get on a plane?
Prepare to wait – oh – and bring your mask
The t-s-a says with the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, summer travel will be back in full swing. And the numbers prove – Americans want to get out of town.
The homeland security secretary says last weekend alone, TSA screened more than 5 million travelers – that’s about seven times the amount of passengers screened by TSA during the same weekend in 2020. Basically airports across the country are close to the same capacity we saw in 2019.
To try and keep the lines moving – since January TSA has hired more than 3000 new TSA agents and plans to hire another 1000 by July 4th.
What does it mean for you? More people in the airport – longer wait times at security.

Here’s what’s not changing – the mask mandate.
Until September 13th the TSA requires you to wear a masks from the second you step into the airport to the second you leave. The homeland security secretary did not give a timeline to lift that mandate.
