Travel to Canada opens to Americans. PLUS GOP picks Jan 6 Committee members.

Fast Facts for July 19, 2021

Hello Canada!

The Canadian government will lift its travel restriction for American citizens and residents starting on August 9th.

But – there is a major caveat!!!!

To enter – you have to be fully vaccinated against covid 19 at least 14 days prior to your arrival. And you must provide proof to the Canadian government before you’ll be allowed to enter. You can upload your records to the Canadian government’s ARRIVECAN app or website. You must also present an original copy when attempting to enter. The vaccine brands that are sanctioned – Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson and Johnson.

All travelers coming into Canada, regardless of vaccine status, must be asymptomatic and be required to provide a negative PCR or molecular test within 72 hours of requesting entry.

Fully vaccinated travelers will not need a post-arrival test unless they’ve been randomly selected at the port of entry to complete a Covid19 molecular test.

Unvaccinated minors under the age of 12 entering Canada with vaccinated parents or guardians will not have to quarantine for 14 days.

The border with Canada has been closed to non-essential travel since the beginning of the pandemic in march of 2020. At this point — the white house has *not* said whether it plans to reopen the u-s border to Canadians.

We now know who will be responsible for getting to the bottom of the January 6th attack on the Capitol.

The Republican leadership just named their five members to the House Select Committee. Including…

Representatives Jim Banks (R-Indiana), Kelly Armstrong (R-North Dakota), Rodney Davis (R-Illinois), Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Troy Nehls (R-Texas).

Keep in mind – the Speaker of the House does have the right to veto any of these selections.

Eight members were named to the Democrat side a few weeks ago. Including…

Representative Bennie Thompson (D-Mississippi) who will chair the committee Representatives Adam Schiff (D-California), Jamie Raskin (D-Maryland), Zoe Lofgren (D-California), Pete Aguilar (D-California), Elaine Luria (D-Virginia), and Stephanie Murphy (D-Florida).

Republican Liz Cheney was selected by the house speaker to sit on the committee as well.

The committee is tasked with several things including – investigating the facts, circumstances and causes related to the January 6th attack on the Capitol, the preparedness of local, state and federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies, and determining “influencing factors” related to this attack including the online activities conducted by those who participated in the attack. The committee will also collect, build on and analyze the evidence already uncovered by other house committees.

The select committee will have subpoena power and is required to produce a declassified report on the findings. It may also include proposals for new legislation to prevent this from happening again.

First hearing scheduled for next week.
