The beginning of the end of president elect Trump’s federal criminal prosecutions is here.
Today — the judge in his 2020 election interference and January 6th case just canceled all upcoming court dates and deadlines.
Why? Because – as I reported in this video earlier this week was going to happen – today special counsel Jack Smith filed this one paragraph brief with the court saying his team needs “time to assess this unprecedented circumstance and determine the appropriate course going forward consistent with department of justice policy.”
As I reported in that video –department of justice policy does not allow for the prosecution of a sitting president. And while Trump is not yet the sitting president, this case – if allowed to continue would drag into his presidency. On top of that – the reality is – as soon as Trump is sworn in on January 20th, Attorney General Merrick Garland is out and trump will appoint his own attorney general. And obviously, Trump’s attorney general is not going to allow any investigation of trump whether it’s internal or independent to move forward.
In today’s filing, Jack Smith said he would inform judge Tanya Chutkan how exactly he is going to move forward by December 2nd. But expect – this case will be dropped.
