That was Special Counsel Jack Smith speaking for the first time today about the historic federal criminal indictment of former President Donald Trump.
Smith was appointed back in November to be an independent investigator to look into two cases involving the former President. This documents case and what happened around and on January 6th. Smith previously had worked for the DOJ but at the time of his appointment as Special Counsel he was the chief prosecutor at The Hague.
And what’s interesting is –he’s never said a word. Not once. Until today. And he didn’t say much. He only talked for 2.5 minutes but made sure to spend time talking about why keeping classified and defense documents secured is important and why the charges included in this indictment against Trump that I detailed in this video earlier today – are appropriate.
Former President Trump has said repeatedly he will plead not guilty to all 37 counts listed in this indictment.
