SCOTUS rules Title 42 can stay. For now.

December 27, 2022

The controversial immigration policy known as Title 42 will stay for now – so says the Supreme Court.

The high court just ruled on an emergency appeal brought by 19 GOP-led states suing to stop the Biden administration from ending the program. Title 42 was ordered by former President Trump allows US border patrol agents to immediately expel migrants who are attempting to enter the United States because of fears of Covid19.

This means Title 42 will remain in place until the Supreme Court decides on whether those GOP-led states have the legal standing to bring the lawsuit in the first place. When will we know? Well, the high court will hear the case in February and a decision could come as late as June.
