Another student loan forgiveness challenge to the supreme court has been shut down by Justice Amy Coney Barrett.
I told you in this video earlier this week that a conservative legal firm on behalf of two Indiana student loan borrowers were asking the supreme court to block the forgiveness program because they say it would unduly burden them with state taxes.
Well, today, Justice Barrett — like she did just a few weeks ago, denied the request for the emergency petition to be heard. She gave no reason why. She doesn’t have to it’s her decision because she oversees the lower court that threw out their case because they had no standing to file it in the first place.
But the program is still on pause because of the 8th circuit court of appeals temporary block of the program while they consider a case brought by 6 GOP-led states who say the President usurped the power of Congress by forgiving $10,000 or $20,000 of student debt on his own. We’re still waiting for the 8th circuit to rule on the case.
