ICE and Customs and Border Protection will be funded for the rest of President Trump’s term — to the tune of $70 billion.
That’s because the House just passed the same funding bill the Senate passed last week.
The final vote was 214 to 212, with four lawmakers not voting. All the Republicans voted yes, and all the Democrats voted no, along with the one independent who caucuses with Republicans.
As I reported last week, this $70 billion is on top of the $75 billion Republicans also gave ICE and about $65 billion they gave CBP in extra funding to carry out immigration enforcement and operations in the Big Beautiful Bill.
The bill that passed today does not include any of the changes Democrats have been wanting to reform the way ICE and CBP conduct themselves on the streets of America. That’s why Republicans introduced this bill as a reconciliation bill — so they could pass it on their own in the House and the Senate without a single Democratic vote. And that’s exactly what happened.
So technically, this bill authorizes the committees with jurisdiction over Homeland Security, CBP, and ICE to create legislation that spends up to $70 billion through 2029. Specifically, the bill says that money can be used for personnel, border security, technology screening, and immigration enforcement activities for CBP, and personnel, Homeland Security Investigations, immigration enforcement activities, technology, and certain arrests related to immigration enforcement for ICE.
This bill will now go to President Trump’s desk for signature. It is all but certain he will sign it into law.
