Representative Jim Jordan just lost the first ballot vote for Speaker of the House.
The final vote was 212 votes for Hakeem Jeffries the Democrat leader of the House.
And Jim Jordan 200 votes. Yes…that’s correct, the Democrat won more votes than the Republican when there is a Republican majority.
All the remaining Republican votes went someone to other Republicans not named Jim Jordan.
So now what??? Well, the republicans are back in conference trying to figure out what to do next. Should Jordan go for another round of votes on the floor? Should the Republicans find a more moderate candidate for speaker? Or should both parties Democrats and Republicans agree to give the Speaker Pro Tem Patrick McHenry more powers temporarily to at least get the House working again. We are two weeks without a House Speaker, exactly one month away from a government shutdown and Israel and Ukraine aid on the line.
