AI regulations coming.
The Pope doesn’t wear a white puffer jacket.
There was no explosion outside the pentagon.
And no, former President Trump never hugged dr. Fauci despite what the DeSantis campaign wants you to think.
All those images are fake. Created by AI. Which is both incredible and a little scary depending on what side you’re on.
But regardless how you feel – what we all know is – AI is completely unregulated. That leaves images and even videos like the ones I showed you to be put out in the universe for all us of to just guess whether they’re real or fake.
So, the President just announced he’s taking a big step forward in creating some new AI rules of the road
But the down sides of AI are what the president and leaders of the seven biggest AI companies talked about at the White House on Friday. Because Congress is yet to pass any new AI regulation to govern how this powerful technology exists in the United States, the president announced the leaders of these companies *voluntarily* agreed to several guardrails to ensure the rights and safety of Americans.
The companies committed to several things like: developing a powerful way to ensure that users know when content is ai generated by adding perhaps a specific watermark. They agreed to publicly reporting when their AI system poses a risk to society when it comes to bias, discrimination or user privacy. They agreed to internal and external security testing of their AI systems before rolling them out to the public and sharing that information with governments and academics to manage AI risks. And they committed to developing and deploying advanced AI systems to address our world’s greatest challenges like preventing and curing cancer and mitigating climate change.
And this regulation can’t come fast enough. AI is one of the big sticking points for actors and writers who are currently on strike. They fear AI will take their jobs or alter their performance. Authors are also demanding AI companies compensate them because AI companies used their copywritten work to train their AI systems.
But AI isn’t just a united states problem. The President says G7, EU and UN member nations have also expressed AI concerns. The President said he will work with all of them to establish an international framework to govern AI worldwide.
We all know how congress works…slow as molasses. So in the meantime the President says he will be introducing a new executive order to regulate AI later this summer.
