The IRS says 36 million families received their October child tax credit payment today.
The vast majority – received the money through direct deposit. But if you’re getting a paper check the IRS says you need to give it some time.
Now – a couple of notes –
If October was the first payment you received the IRS says the payments for July, August and September will be still be sent to you … but those payments will be spread over three months rather than six, making each monthly payment larger.
For those of you impacted by the mix up in September – especially if you were one of the parents who received more money than you were supposed to. The IRS says the September glitch mostly impacted taxpayers who file married and only one spouse made a bank account or address change in the child tax credit portal. That resulted in some of you getting more money than you were supposed to. The IRS says the typical overpayment was $31.25 per child between the ages of 6 to 17 and $37.50 for children under six. …to fix that – the IRS is going to reduce your payments for October, November and December. You’ll probably see a $10 to $13 reduction per child in each payment. You will be receiving a letter from the IRS explaining all of this to you.
The IRS also says they’ve corrected the technical problem that impacted – they say – 2% of you.

If you are one of the 15 million people who got the Johnson and Johnson Covid19 vaccine — you may soon be eligible to get a booster.
The FDA’s independent advisory panel unanimously voted today to recommend a booster dose under emergency use authorization for the single-shot vaccine. The booster can be given at least two months after the first shot.
Unlike the Moderna and Pfizer vaccine booster — the panel recommended the Johnson and Johnson booster for everyone over the age of 18 who received J&J.
Like always – this decision will go to the FDA for approval or denial and then will go to the CDC for approval or denial.
The panel is now discussing whether or not mixing and matching vaccines is recommended.
UPDATE – The panel adjourned for the day without making a recommendation on “mixing and matching’ boosters and vaccines.
