If you watch content on YouTube or you create content for the platform – there’s a big policy change you’re going to want to know about.
And it has to do with AI generated video.
And if you violate the policy – your account could be suspended.
Now – back to this new ai policy.
Remember this ad from the Republican National Committee that showed the possible future of America if Joe Biden was elected president again? It showed a dystopian view of the country with the financial systems crumbling, borders being over run and military in the streets. But none of it was real…the RNC was very clear that the entire 30-second video was made up by using ai.
But you can see how if they hadn’t been fully transparent – viewers would be confused. And as we move into the 2024 election season if left unchecked all kinds of fake videos of candidates saying or doing things they never actually did would mislead or confuse voters. And that opened up a much bigger conversation about how to force creators no matter who they are– to admit when they’re using AI. And that’s where YouTube comes in. The platform just said ai generated video that is not disclosed violates their community guidelines.
These new changes take effect next year. Creators will get new options to indicate whether they’re posting AI-generated video that – for example realistically depicts an event that never actually happened, or showing someone saying or doing something they didn’t actually do. Creators will be required to disclose whether the video they’re uploading was altered or synthetic content that appears realistic but was actually made using ai tools.
For viewers Google says you’ll likely get a notice on the video that looks like this indicating what you’re watching is altered or synthetic content. And when the content topic is sensitive – the platform will add more prominent labels to the video player.
But for some AI generated content a label isn’t good enough and the platform will simply just remove it for community guideline violations.
So if you violate these rules your content could be removed, your platform could be demonetized or your account could be suspended.
