New minimum wage increases for 2023

January 2, 2023

New year, more pay.  If you live in specific states.

That’s because in more than half the states when the calendar turned to 2023, minimum wage went up.

Now – federally the minimum wage still stands at $7.25 which is where it’s been since 2009.

That’s the bottom, legally no state can go below that. But lots of states have much higher minimum wages. And now in 2023 – those increases are taking effect bumping up pay in some cases as much as a buck-fifty an hour.

Here’s a map of where minimum wage is increasing in 2023.

The state with the highest minimum wage right now is Washington state where it’s $15.74 an hour.

For the record – the District of Columbia’s minimum wage is $16.50 an hour and by July it’ll be $17 an hour.

The push by the Biden administration to federally raise minimum wage to $15 an hour failed and hasn’t really been seriously considered ever since.

Closer look at the map with 2023 minimum wage increases.
