The White House will end the public health emergency for monkeypox in two months.
I’m sure you probably haven’t thought about it in a while, but nearly 30,000 Americans have been infected by the monkeypox virus since the outbreak in the spring and 19 have died from it.
The public health emergency declaration was made in August to cut red tape and allow the government to provide resources to communities and health organizations to fight the virus. But since then, the infection rates have decreased and now the Department of Health and Human Services says they have the tools to now monitor future cases and have a free vaccine available to those who are at-risk.
Well, today, HHS gave a 60 day warning that the public health emergency will end on January 31, 2023.
