If you are waiting on a package from Shein or perhaps that yellow app where people like to buy dupes – you may not get it after all.
That’s because tonight – the US postal service issued this notice of international service disruption on all packages coming from China and Hong Kong.
The announcement is just one line that says effective today, the postal service will temporarily suspend only international package acceptance of inbound parcels from China and Hong Kong posts until further notice.
USPS says this will not impact letters or flats from China or Honk Kong.
So why is this happening? Well the postal service doesn’t say – however, it’s a fact that as of today, president trump’s 10% tariff across the board on all Chinese goods took effect and in response China issued a 15% tax on certain types of coal and liquefied natural gas and a 10% tariff on crude oil, agricultural machinery, large-displacement cars and pickup trucks. The measures take effect on February 10.
On top of that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce added two American firms including the owner of fashion brands Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger to its ‘unreliable entities list” because they “violated normal market trading principles.” And China’s state administration for market regulation said it was initiating an investigation into google for suspected violation of its anti-monopoly even though google has minimal operations in the country.
So what does this mean for you? Well – if you ordered something from China and it was coming directly from that country — you will probably want to contact USPS to see what your options are. But clearly they won’t be accepting it nor will they be delivering it until further notice.
