INSIDE Trump’s State of the Union | The 3 Topics He Plans to Discuss

February 23, 2026

That was President Trump this morning and the speech he’s talking about is the State of the Union…which is of course happening tomorrow night. So – what’s Trump going to talk about? And when he says a long speech – how long is long?

Well – let’s first start with the big three things that Trump will probably talk about. You should know all presidents use the state of the union to highlight what they see as their accomplishments and they also use the speech to lay out their vision for the country’s future. So when it comes to trump’s speech the first thing we know he’s going to talk about is the economy. He believes – as you just heard — this economy is the best in US history — he often says things like the u-s is the hottest country in the world. Expect him to say that tomorrow night too– and it’s possible he’s going to say something like what he said just last week.

Now – saying something like that during the state of the union may not be the wisest choice – especially because polling says you – generally do not agree with him on affordability. Most Americans believe the cost of living is out of control and things are still too expensive. So it’ll be interesting to see how Trump frames what he sees as an accomplishment on the economy within the context of how you feel about the cost of living and affordability. As a side note – I would watch how he talks about the Supreme Court tariff decision – especially since some – not all – but some of the justices will be in attendance — right there in the front row watching him.

The second topic he will absolutely talk about will be what he sees as his accomplishments on immigration, mass deportations and the closing the border. Immigration was one of the main reasons why Trump was re-elected in 2024 but now – there’s also polling that shows many of those who voted for trump say he’s gone too far – especially in places like Minnesota. So it’ll be interesting to see how he frames that topic too. He will likely bring up accomplishments like the Laken Riley act and the near zero net migration we saw in 2025.

And the last thing he will talk about as an accomplishment is the military action he’s ordered…whether it be the boat strikes in international waters or the operation that took the Venezuelan dictator and it’s possible he could even make an announcement about Iran – especially since he has amassed a huge military presence in the middle east and he continues to threaten Iran if they don’t make a deal on their nuclear program.

And that leads me to the last point – which is how long is Trump going to talk?

Well – the fact is – President Trump holds the record for longest address to congress in history…and it happened last year. Now – technically trump’s speech last year was not a state of the union because he had just come into office and on the first year a president takes office — the address to congress is not called the state of the union. So whatever you want to call it – Trump spoke last year for a record 1 hour 39 minutes and 32 seconds. We know that trump regularly – whether it be at a White House event or a campaign event talks for at least an hour – so when he said today – it’s going to be a long speech – you can bet it’ll be at least an hour and may beat last year’s record.  Now – if you want to be technical – according to the American Presidency Project — the longest actual State of the Union address was delivered by President Clinton in 2000 when he spoke for 1 hour, 28 minutes and 49 seconds.
