Google is going to start mass deleting Gmail accounts and the photos and documents attached in two days.
And if you want to make sure they don’t delete yours – there are some things you have to do right now.
So what’s happening? Back in may Google released this notice saying unused Google accounts would be deleted for security purposes. Google says those unattended accounts often rely on old or re-used passwords that are easily compromised and since you’re not checking them frequently, they’re a security risk.
That means if you have not used any of your Google accounts – including Gmail, calendar or Google docs account in two years they are going to start mass deleting on December first. They are going to phase in the mass deleting starting with accounts that were created and then never used again. This applies to personal google accounts and will not impact organization, school or business accounts.
So how do you make sure your Google account and all your stuff attached does not get deleted?
It’s really easy – just sign into it. Or read or send an email, use the Google drive, watch a YouTube video through the account, download an app from the Google play store, use Google search through that account.
Here’s the thing – this shouldn’t be a surprise to you. If your account is on Google’s list to be deleted you should have received or you will be receiving multiple notifications to the email and the recovery email associated with the account.
