How can Vice President Kamala Harris just be the democrat’s nominee for President? What about all those primary voters? They didn’t get a say in this! And what about all the state ballot printing deadlines? Her name won’t even be on them. Breathe.
One more time for everyone in the back who apparently hasn’t watched or is choosing to ignore the facts about how the primary process works. You know – the process I have explained in great detail in two videos this week and one more back January?
Now — I do have some *new* information about timing that I need to share with you …so just hang on. And all you who are already wanting to comment. I need you to hang on too. Listen to this whole video, understand what I’m reporting — and then feel free to comment. Deal?
Let me get the basics out and then I’ll explain the critical new timing information you need to know because things are happening fast.
The facts are — whether you vote in a republican or democratic primary election or caucus you are not voting for the candidate. You are voting for the state delegates who will then go to the party convention and vote for the candidate. That’s true for the Democrats. The Republicans have the exact same process – in fact that’s what you saw Republican delegates do last week when they nominated former President Trump and Senator Vance. The Democratic delegates get their turn starting next week at a virtual convention. It is critical for you to understand….it is completely the party’s prerogative to choose the candidate who represents them. Period. The Republican party doesn’t get a say in which candidate the Democrats choose just like the Democratic party doesn’t get a say in which candidate the Republicans choose. Lastly – we have not reached any state ballot printing deadlines yet – so that’s not even an issue.
As for the 14 million voters who cast a ballot for President Biden in the primaries and caucuses? Again, those voters voted for the delegates who should be voting for the Biden Harris ticket. Well – this week the Biden part of that ticket dropped out. So Harris is all that’s technically left. But that still does *not* mean she is the automatic nominee. At this point – since Biden is not in the race – those same democratic delegates are now free to vote for whomever they like. And here’s where the new information comes in.
The Democratic national committee just formalized their convention rules and laid out the process for *any qualified Democrat to throw his or her hat in the ring to possibly become the Democratic nominee for President. In order to meet the upcoming state ballot printing deadlines the Democrats are going to host a virtual convention starting on August first prior to their in person convention in mid-august. By this Saturday any qualified Democrat who wants to be the party’s nominee must submit his or her paperwork to the DNC declaring intent. At this point – the Vice President is the only candidate in contention. If that holds, the Democratic delegates will begin electronically voting on August 1st. That process ends on August 7th. But if other qualified Democrats jump in – which they may – then the DNC will shift the dates so they can comply with the printing deadlines. As of today – Vice President Harris has more than secured the number of delegates she needs to become the party nominee.
