The House has adjourned.
And they could not agree on a Speaker.
There were three ballots, three votes for Speaker, Republican leader Kevin McCarthy lost all three times he did not reach the majority 218 votes. The first time, he lost 19 Republican votes, the second time he lost 19 Republican votes and the last time he lost 20 Republican votes.
So, because there’s still no Speaker, that means nothing will happen, no business will get done in the house.
As I reported earlier, the last time this happened was 1923. It took 9 ballots and three days to elect a House Speaker. The House will reconvene tomorrow and once again will take up a vote for Speaker.
