A Government shutdown is scheduled for this Friday, September 30th. That is the last day of the Federal fiscal year and Congress has not yet passed a spending plan. And they won’t be able to pass one in time. Instead, we are expecting the House & Senate to pass a Continuing Resolution. That’s a stop gap measure to temporarily keep the Federal government funded while Congress works on a more long-term plan.
Here’s the issue. They haven’t even agreed on that Continuing Resolution, and there are only 3 full legislative working days left before the scheduled shut down. Why? Because the House is off today and tomorrow for Rosh Hashana and the Senate is also off today and tomorrow morning for the holiday.
There is a procedural vote scheduled in the Senate Tuesday night but no official word yet.
I have worked for the government for 18 years. It is always the same. They suspend all leave time and heck we have even missed pay dates. Same dance every year.
How frustrating for you. It’s frustrating for me as a journalist. Like, come on! Congress knows this deadline comes the same exact time every year.
