That was today. And if you don’t recognize that woman – that is convicted sex trafficker and Jeffrey Epstein co conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell. She invoked her fifth amendment right over and over and over again refusing to answer any questions form the house oversight committee. Now – that wasn’t a surprise. We knew that was coming.
What was a surprise however is the bold move her lawyer made.
Maxwell’s lawyer told the committee that Maxwell would talk – but only if she received a commutation from President Trump so she could get out of prison.
Maxwell’s lawyer David Oscar Markus posted to his social media account that “if this committee and the American public truly want to hear the unfiltered truth about what happened, there is a straightforward path. Ms. Maxwell is prepared to speak fully and honestly if granted clemency by President Trump.”
But then she sweetened the pot. Her lawyer went on to say —
“Only she can provide the complete account. Some may not like what they hear, but the truth matters. For example, both President Trump and President Clinton are innocent of any wrongdoing. Ms. Maxwell alone can explain why, and the public is entitled to that explanation.”
Now – we know that Ghislaine Maxwell is a known liar. She has perjured herself and she is not a reliable witness especially because it’s clear she will say anything to get out of prison. But this move by her is clever.
She also knows – that President Trump wants badly to be removed from the Epstein conversation – so she is willing to say publicly that he did nothing wrong – of course – if he commutes her sentence. Now – politically commuting the sentence of the only person convicted of these Epstein crimes is probably going to go over like a lead balloon – but at the same time when asked about pardoning Maxwell or commuting her sentence President Trump has never explicitly ruled it out.
