Forget about paying for that expensive tax software. The IRS’s free file program is now open.
Yes. You heard me correctly. You can file your federal taxes using credible, real online tax software for free. The IRS says 70% of American taxpayers qualify for this program.
The program is a public private partnership between the IRS and several tax prep and filing software companies. You can either get guided online tax prep help by choosing the software you want to use or get access to fillable forms. Both are free. To qualify, your adjusted gross income must be $73,000 a year or less. That’s it.
Plus – if you qualify and you live in certain states, you can also get use the software to file your state return for free.
