December “to do” list for Congress:
- Avoid a government shutdown by *this* Friday. December 3
- Avoid a federal debt default around December 15th
- Pass the National Defense Authorization Act by December 31
- Democrats want to pass the Build Back Better bill through the Senate by Christmas
Where we stand…
Preventing a government shut down this Friday, December 3: No legislation on the floor. If/when something is passed it may be another short term deal.
On avoiding the federal government defaulting on our national debt: Deadline on or around December 15. No public plan, no legislation on the floor. Democrat & Republican leadership said to be “talking”
*MUST DO* pass the National Defense Authorization Act by December 31: NDAA Legislation failed in the Senate on Monday. Democrats & Republicans fighting over this.
Senate Democrats want to pass the Build Back Better bill by Christmas: All 50 Democrat & Independent Senators need to vote YES for this to pass. Sen. Joe Manchin continues to say he needs more time and says he is not a “yes” yet.
All this with the backdrop of the annual Congressional recess scheduled to begin on December 13.
