Inflation highest since 1982.
New December consumer price index report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics confirms inflation is UP significantly.
Though some costs for consumer goods went down in December from November, like energy. But several went up. Here are some of the most notable increases between December of 2020 and December 2021.
- Shelter: UP 4.1% (up 0.4% over November 2021)
- Used cars & trucks UP 37.3% (up 3.5% from November)
- Apparel: 5.8% (UP 1.7% from November 2021)
- All foods: UP 6.3% (up 0.5% from November 2021)
But the biggest number — ALL consumer goods and services were UP by 7.0% between December 2020 and December 2021. That was the largest 12-month increase since June of 1982. Two notes: 1. These numbers are not seasonably adjusted. 2. December 2020 was a pandemic surge.
