College students – you’re being targeted by scammers wanting to steal your tax refund. If you have an .edu email address….you might be on their list.
The IRS says these scammers are sending emails with subject lines like “tax refund payment” or “recalculation or your tax refund payment” and then the email asks you to click on a link and submit a form to “claim their refund”
But the so-called form requires you to give all kinds of personal information like, name, address, drivers license, birthday, social security number etc. Literally everything they need steal your identity.
First – the IRS does *not* send you emails. If you want to check on your tax refund, you can check the “where’s my refund” portal on irs.gov.
The IRS is also asking if you do get this email – please screen shot the email or forward the email to phishing@irs.gov
