AT&T just revealed what cause that huge outage that caused so many Americans to be without cell service this morning.
And no – it was not a cyber-attack. The company says it was because they were trying to expand their network.
The company just said “based on our initial review, we believe the outage was caused by the application & execution of an incorrect process used as we were expanding our network, not a cyber attack. We are continuing our assessment to ensure we keep delivering the service that our customers deserve.”
Now –obviously there are still a lot of questions about what happened today and how exactly it happened and why in addition to customers — it also took down some state and federal emergency operations. And while this AT&T’s statement does eliminate hacking or cyber crime as a cause – “application and execution of an incorrect process used as we expended our network” is what I like to call specifically vague. There’s a lot of works – but no real information.
As I reported earlier today – the FCC, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are also now investigating what happened.
