4 million Americans QUIT their job in October. What does it mean for the jobs market?

November 30, 2022

More than 4 million Americans quit their jobs in the month of October.

Experts say that continues to prove that despite fears of a recession and a jobs market that is starting to cool off — workers are still confident they can easily find another job…usually one with better pay and benefits.

Today’s job turnover report showed in the month of October 4,026,000 people quit their jobs which is just slightly down from September when 4,060,000 people quit their jobs.

There are still 1.7 jobs open per unemployed worker looking for employment. That is down from the peak in July when the ratio was 2 to 1. Pre-Covid the number of open jobs per unemployed workers was 1.2.

The jobs market is slowly cooling off, but the economy still added 6 million jobs in October.
