The Biden Administration just canceled another $3.9 billion in student loan debt for about 208,000 of you.
But this loan forgiveness is *only* for those who attended the now-defunct-for-profit – ITT Technical Institute. Some former ITT Tech students were already eligible for debt cancelation under other programs but now the department of education will automatically cancel all remaining debt for those who attended the school between January of 2005 and September 2016.
So how do you know if you’re eligible.
First – you need to have attended ITT Tech anytime between 2005 to 2016.
And second –you qualify if you haven’t already applied for cancelation under the Department of education’s borrower defense to repayment program – that program awards forgiveness to those who can show they’ve been defrauded or misled by their college
If you meet those criteria – congratulations, the Department of Education says you will automatically see your loan discharged with no additional action on your part.
Read the information from the Department of Education here.

I have a Ffelp student loan for my son for when he attended ITT in 2005 that I pay thru Navient. I never qualify for any forgiveness or even holds during the pandemic- I am always told it’s because I have a Ffelp loan. Will I finally qualify this time for loan discharge? I don’t deserve to be screwed by ITT any more than anyone else. Thanks
Kimberly, the answer is I don’t know. I’m not in charge of discharging loans. Nor am I fully versed on your personal loan arrangement.
But the article you’re commenting on has a link that directly takes you to the Department of Education information about the ITT forgiveness program.
I suggest you read that first and then go from there.
Good luck.
Not sure if you know anything about this but their was a class-action lawsuit against Navient as well. We received a check from the Navient settlement but my husband also qualifies for the ITT one (he received a letter last week). Do you know if cashing the check from Navient will affect the ITT waiver? I know they are separate entities but they are both dealing with the same student loans.
I do not know how the Navient settlement will apply to this.
All I can tell you is to check the Dept. of Education website for additional information.
