Secretary of Commerce Howard untick has just agreed to appear in front of the House Oversight committee to testify about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. This is the first sitting trump administration official to testify in this Epstein investigation.
The Oversight committee chairman James Comer just posted to his social media page that Lutnick had “proactively agreed to appear voluntarily” before the committee. He then went on to say that he “commended” Lutnick’s commitment to transparency”.
Now – the voluntary appearance by Lutnick may have actually come because the committee was getting ready to demand or possibly even subpoena Lutnick to come it and sit for a deposition. Why? Well – because of Lutnick’s changing explanations for his association with Epstein after Epstein’s conviction. And then – this photo surfaced from the Epstein files of Lutnick on Epstein’s island with Jeffrey Epstein. Last week – representative Nancy Mace – who sits on the oversight committee posted that Lutnick must answer questions and even chairman comer said it was possible the committee was going to demand that the come in.
While Lutnick is the first sitting Trump administration official to testify in this Epstein investigation — he’s not the only trump official to testify. Trump’s attorney general from his first term – Bill Barr also testified in this Epstein investigation last year.
As for Lutnick — it’s unclear when he’ll appear and unclear if his deposition will be treated the same way as all the others. In the past, the oversight committee has conducted the deposition in private and video taped it – then released the tape at a later time. Chairman comer has not indicated if that will be the same for Lutnick yet.
