If you have $5 million– you will soon have a short-cut to becoming a US citizen.
But why does Trump want to do this? Well, the president says he wants to remake the EB5 visa program which is an investor visa program that was established by congress in 1990. The current EB5 visa program requires participants to invest a little over a million dollars and crate at least 10 jobs and puts that participating on the pathway to a green card which ultimately leads to citizenship. Trump’s Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the who thing needs a revamp and trump agrees.
Trump says if he can sell enough of these gold cards he could eliminate the deficit and the debt. Now – that would take millions of people to participate and pay $5 million for this gold card. Whether that can happen? We’ll have to see.
But the other question is can the president do this? Well, the EB5 program was just reauthorized by congress in 2022. So it’s unclear. But trump says yes he can do it.
Trump said while all countries will be eligible to apply for this new gold card, the individual applicants will be vetted very carefully. Including Russian oligarchs.
