14th Amendment won’t stop Trump in Michigan

November 15, 2023

The 14th amendment will not stop former President Trump from appearing on the ballot – at least not yet and at least not in Michigan.

If that sounds familiar…it should – just last week I told you the exact same thing happened in the Minnesota Supreme Court. That court ruled against the plaintiffs but not because they didn’t have a case. The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled against them because the plaintiffs tried to remove trump too early.

In his 26-page ruling the Michigan judge ruled against the plaintiffs in this case because he said the state’s Secretary of State doesn’t have the authority to declare Trump disqualified for the Republican primary election ballot – that’s the sole responsibility of the US Congress.  The judge said Trump followed state law in qualifying for the primary ballot and he cannot be removed.

The plaintiffs in this case were trying to get Trump removed from the ballot because they claim his involvement in what happened around January 6th violates section three of the 14th Amendment which disqualifies from federal office anyone who engaged in or abetted insurrection or rebellion against the United States or the constitution.

The plaintiffs said they will appeal.
