Kristi Noem is out as the secretary of Homeland Security.
President Trump just announced that he would be nominating Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin to be the nest DHS secretary.
While Trump isn’t using the word “fired” ….he’s firing her. His social media post says he’s going to be moving her to be the special envoy for the Shield of the Americas. Which is some new initiative Trump is trying to create with other Western hemisphere countries.
So why did Trump made such a sudden change? Was it because under her leadership American citizens were being detained and held by immigration officers? No. Was it because two American citizens were killed by immigration officers in Minnesota? No. Was it because she was withholding FEMA relief money? Also no.
The last straw – reportedly – was this moment over a TV commercia;
Trump told Reuters today that he never authorized that $220 million ad- campaign.
So now what? Well – the president said Mullin take over the position on March 31st. He will likely act as the acting secretary of homeland security until he can official be confirmed by the Senate. There is no timeframe for a confirmation hearing for him.
