After today, you’re probably going to start seeing lower gas prices.
But it’s not because of anything that President Trump has done and it’s not because of any trouble with the economy. It’s because today – September 15th is the last day that the federal government requires gas stations to sell the summer blend of gasoline nationwide. That means starting tomorrow, gas stations can start selling the winter blend which is cheaper….so in theory, your gas prices should be going down too.
The federal government requires American refineries to produce and gas stations to sell the summer blend of gasoline from June 1st to September 15th every year – then the switch over happens on September 16. The summer blend is used during the hotter summer months but it’s more expensive to produce so it makes the product more expensive for you to buy. But that changes tomorrow. So how much will the price go down? Generally the rule of thumb is anywhere between 10-cents a gallon and 30-cents a gallon.
For the record – according to AAA – the national average for regular gas is $3.18 a gallon. But if you look at the map the most expensive gas is in red and the second most expensive gas is pink and generally found in the west that’s anywhere from 3.14 and 4.66, the white represents gas between three dollars and 3.14. And the dark blue is the cheapest with the light blue being the second cheapest and is generally in the Midwest and south and ranges from 2.71 to 2.99.
